It's PUMPKIN season! Pumpkins evoke an innate feeling of abundance, wellbeing and fulfillment--they have universal appeal--they are irresistible and they make people smile!
These shimmering glass pumpkins were nurtured from sand, rather than seed, and individually created on blow pipes in Molly Stone and Michael Cohn’s hot glass studio in Northern California. Cohn-Stone Studios is one of the country’s most highly regarded and longest tenured contemporary art-glass designers and producers. Their acclaimed line of exquisitely crafted glass pumpkins range in size from four-inches to dramatic, life-sized museum-quality giants that measure 14-inches across. Colors vary from the traditional orange to turquoise, reds, greens, bronze, pastel hues, dappled, multicolored and more. The pumpkins are finished with gold luster glass stems and leaves that give each piece a unique artistic character.
Each pumpkin is individually hand-blown by the artists. Blazing hot molten glass is transformed into a pumpkin shape as the artist manipulates the hot glass by blowing into it through the long metal blowpipe. The artists ‘dance’ with the glass, coaxing it into shape with wet wood and metal tools, while moving it in and out of a 2000 degree furnace.
